On September 25, 2019 I had an amazing experience involving a recent very sad news story, a soul retrieval and my iPhone6. I attended a meeting of TMI (The Monroe Institute) in NYC hosted by E.B. on the Bowery in Manhattan. E.B., a gracious host has taken over the group from A.M. (also very gracious) who moved out of town over a year ago. I’m using initials here to ensure the privacy of the participants.

The subject for the evening was lucid dreaming. Five people were in attendance, E.B., R.O. (long time friend), J.F. (never met before), R.S. (recent acquaintance) and me. We gathered in the living room area. E.B.’s place has an almost eerie resemblance in some aspects to the former host’s apartment. After greeting everyone and discussing what we would be doing, we then moved onto cork mats on the floor in another room where we donned headphones, laid down, got comfortable and listened to a Hemi-Sync exercise meant to promote lucid dreaming.

The funny thing about doing some of these Hemi-Sync exercises is that one can be conscious in an altered state and hear yourself snoring. Somewhere a few minutes into the exercise I discovered that my personal lucid dreaming guide was to be a tall blonde showgirl, which I found absurdly amusing. I followed the directions on the audio and subsequently slipped further into a dream state.

After the audio concluded we gathered again in the living room area to discuss our inner experiences with the audio. To my surprise, after mentioning the description of my dream guide, our host told us that a friend was staying with her for a few days that was a tall blonde knockout. She wondered if perhaps I’d picked up her energy. We went around the room with each participant speaking about their experience. Suddenly I recalled a “dream” I’d had during the aforementioned exercise.

One of the Monroe Institute methods, and something Robert Monroe, the eponymous founder, engaged in, are “retrievals”. Briefly, a retrieval involves guiding the soul(s) of the deceased to the “Light” and off Earth plane where they may be stuck. I have done numerous retrievals with TMI groups both at the actual Institute and at meetings at A.M.’s apartment and at the request of friends and clients. These retrievals are somewhat like shamanic soul retrievals done by other groups as well. Being a very pragmatic individual, I have often wondered if I were making these scenarios up. The retrievals could be done for groups of deceased, as in a plane crash, or for individuals.

In this case, our meditation objective had nothing to do with retrievals, but rather lucid dreaming. I related my experience to the group. Several days ago I had seen the headline of an news article, a man drowned in Tanzania whilst proposing to his girlfriend. I saw only the headline and didn’t read the news article but for some reason thought he was from Australia. He was not. I did not give it another thought.

In my lucid dream experience, I found a man submerged underwater. His body was quite thin, white and clammy. The experience was very palpable. I lifted him up and propelled him higher. Water was dripping off him. He wanted to go back and marry his girlfriend. He seemed to know he had come to an unfortunate end but hadn’t really accepted it. I explained to him that he would see her again shortly. He was worried that it meant she would die soon. I told him that I didn’t know but that it was not necessarily the case because time was different on the “other side”. I was joined by other beings who were escorts or helpers and that some folks call angels. We travelled upwards through mists. I perceived an old thin lady with longish sandy hair that seemed as though it may have had a permanent wave. She reached out to him and he clearly recognized her so I released him to her. The word I got in my mind was “grandmother”.

I then proceeded to tell the group that I was always a little doubtful about my retrievals, but that this had happened during a possibly lucid dream and I had no desire to do a retrieval prior to having had the experience. At that moment, my iPhone, which was in my zippered up handbag next to me on the couch, shut down in the sleep mode with the ringing and alerts off for the exercise and meeting, burst forth with Siri saying “I didn’t quite understand what you said.” Mouth open and baffled I took the phone out of my handbag and the screen which was connected to Siri simply said “the grandmother”. I showed it to the assembled group. I do not have an explanation for how that happened. I think everyone in the room was stunned. Sadly I did not have the presence of mind to snap a screen shot and would have had to figure out how to do that.

R.O. and I interpreted it later as a confirmation that I had actually done the retrieval. In checking the actual news story today I discovered that the deceased man was in fact quite thin and white, but hailed from Baton Rouge, Louisiana where I had once lived for a year. In addition I have visited Tanzania and was once left behind in the open ocean while on a dolphin swimming expedition in the area of the Bermuda triangle near the Bahamas. So there are three points of contact.

For the record, I am not advertising doing retrievals and I know nothing more about this case, so please do not assume that. This post is solely for the purpose of documenting this amazing experience. I also want to express my condolences to the victim’s family and friends.

William Buhlman

During my life, I have had several spontaneous out of body experiences, many instances of sleep paralysis and vibratory sensations, and have often been “out of phase” with my body. Much of this has been very frightening to me, especially when I was a little child. As an adult I have worked to overcome this fear and this has resulted in a number of experiences in which I communicated with other non-physical beings. Please see: Bee Message for an example. But I could not initiate these experiences at will and I could not lose all fear, although going to the Monroe Institute has aided me greatly in my pursuit. I have been given access to others with similar experiences and techniques to lessen my apprehension.

So, of course, when I became aware that author William Buhlman was facilitating an Out of Body Intensive Workshop at TMI I knew I wanted to attend. I had read his two books Adventures Beyond the Body  and  The Secret of the Soul, both of which I recommend. So I attempted to reserve a space in the workshop, but alas, it was sold out with a waiting list. I was not to be deterred. I put myself on that list and took the ultimate leap of faith: I made non-refundable travel reservations. Then I visualized being a part of the group until <BINGO>a space opened up.

The other attendees were a very select group, but self selected. They were experiencers at various levels, some having had full-blown OBEs others having only been out of phase with their physical bodies and wondering what could possibly be going on. For forty years Bill Buhlman has been traveling out of body volitionally as opposed to spontaneously and practices everyday, but not every day yields an OBE. He gave us many techniques to generate OBEs that we practiced with great fervor in up to five sessions per day of approximately 45 minutes each. I experienced less fear during these sessions because I was intentionally moving my etheric or light body rather than having an experience by surprise.

Although Buhlman has constructed a sort of cosmology for himself based upon his many exploits out of body, he emphasized that we should not buy into the belief systems of others (even him) since with a bit of practice we could obtain direct experience. He believes that this direct experience will benefit us when our physical body dies and we are faced with choices.

For me the real sticking point is the point of individuation. Great sages have said we are all one. We are one with other humans, animals, plants, Earth and everything in the Universe. When we are out of body, travelling to other levels of being and consciousness how do we know if a being we meet is part of our higher self or in fact another entity still individuated on that level of consciousness? Buhlman says to create an intention in the form of a fairly strong demand and repeat it mentally if it does not become immediately clear. I used this strong repeated intention during one practice session to be able to see my etheric surroundings more clearly and to move up a level astrally. It worked!

More to come…

Many psychologists, while explaining away the accounts of people who claim they have been abducted by aliens, say that those individuals are victims of sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is a physical condition which allows the body of a dreamer to be immobilized while dreaming thereby preventing the individual from acting out their dreams and perhaps getting injured or killed. If you are dreaming that you are jumping from your fourth story window to fly to France it is evolutionarily advantageous that you are in a state of sleep paralysis, no argument there.

But is sleep paralysis more than that? Does it have another function? I have had various episodes of sleep paralysis since childhood that were both exceedingly terrifying and interesting, however most memorable episodes had an addition element, that of a very fierce and painful vibration in the head and the face, particularly (in my case) in the area around my nose and hypothetical third eye (between the eyes). First I found I couldn’t move (sleep paralysis) but I was awake in my bed in my bedroom. Then my face and head would begin to buzz dramatically. I’d fight it and either succumb or wrangle myself out of the state. Most often I’d be aware of another being in the room with me and more than not I was afraid of that being because it would be attempting to pull me out-of-body against my volition.

My own experiences were varied and mostly terror inducing. I will not cover the complete content of them now. But after I had a UFO sighting in my teen years some of the experiences took on a different flavor. The being in the room with me was repeatedly the same over a large number of years and imparted to me certain information most of which I don’t wish to disclose in this venue at this time, but I will say that I would describe that being as a tall 7-8 foot radiant humanoid with longish blonde hair, a sort of angel without wings. Was it a dream? I don’t know, I don’t believe so. Was I an abductee or contactee? I don’t know. I do know that 17-year-old me wrote a letter to a parapsychology organization, pleading for help to no avail.

It was not until I was an adult a number of years later that I was quite miraculously drawn to the work of Robert Monroe (that is a very fascinating story in itself for another blog piece) that I read of someone (Monroe) who shared the sensations of the fierce vibrations and worked through his fear to have varied out-of-body experiences in which he met a number of unusual beings.  The first of his books, Journeys Out of Body, chronicles his experiences with the vibrations and the OOBEs. I also subsequently took several seminars at the Monroe Institute wherein I began to control some of the vibrations and instead of ravaging my head they pulsated pleasantly through my body. I called this phenomena “running energy”. I even went willingly out-of-body! At TMI I met many people who had had similar experiences. I also became aware that these vibrations were more common in spiritual literature than I had ever imagined. I am currently compiling a list of authors and their books, and religious figures who have reported this phenomena. While at TMI, I run energy, but still away from that environment I am sometimes the victim of the fierce vibrations and the sometimes troubling events that follow upon them.

But I wish to leave my own experiences to postulate something of a hypothesis of what could be happening here. A human being (and most mammals) are at their most vulnerable while asleep. They are even more vulnerable when they are in a state of “sleep paralysis”. What if entities, good, harmful or neutral, were aware of the human mammalian function of sleep paralysis and could cause it at will in any susceptible human? That would explain many abduction accounts and also accounts of spiritual revelation. It is possible that all persons who experience the paralysis and the vibrations are not receiving contact from the same beings. According to mathematicians at least eleven dimensions exist in our Universe, though we are sensorially aware of only four. In addition whole parallel universes have been postulated by some scientists. The vibrations would seem to be a crucial part of the ability to receive communication from these beings who may inhabit another dimensional plane. They may need to change our vibration to attempt to communicate with us or transport us into another time space continuum. To some humans, the total loss of volition can be horrifying and can lead to mental suffering as they attempt to make sense of these bizarre experiences.

In terms of alien abduction, it is not known from whence indeed the “aliens” might come. They may be space travellers, time travellers or inter-dimensional travellers or all of the above. What is generally agreed upon is that if they have perfected any of these modes of travel they are more advanced technologically than humans are currently. We are rank beginners in our exploration of the Universe. What we know of Our Universe is so little in comparison to what can be known that we must remain humble in our quest for knowledge.

An interesting look at how we might perceive another dimension can be hound at: http://www.lucidcrossroads.co.uk/astral.htm There are other things on this page that are interesting, but I do not necessarily endorse (nor condemn). The part of the page I am referring to involves an explanation of going from two dimensions into three. Another more detailed example of this can be found in the book, Flatland, A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin Abbott Abbott.

Last month I had the privilege of attending the Monroe Institute’s Lifeline Seminar. It was a very illuminating and gratifying experience. Lifeline is described by the Institute as:a multi-faceted six-day graduate program that provides access to states of consciousness beyond those experienced in the Gateway Voyage and Guidelines programs.  Its primary  emphasis is one of service – service to those here in physical matter reality and service to those There who have made the transitions from the physical and who may benefit from assistance.”

There is some disagreement among participants as to whether they are truly accessing the consciousnesses of the physically dead or some aspect of themselves or whether or not it is all one and the same thing anyway. The program was facilitated by Karen Malik and Bob Holbrook, who were both excellent.

I spent a lot of the week running energy through my body, specifically up my spine, and that was a very joyful and exhilarating experience. I received so much energy I was dancing in the field behind the Nancy Penn Center! During the week, I had a really interesting mental telepathy event with another participant who was my roommate. She is an archaeologist who was wounded in Iraq by an IED. We were listening to the same audio presentation on headphones in the same room. Each room has two units called CHECs which are used as beds for sleeping at night and by day are used for listening to hemi-sync audio presentations. Hemi-sync audio provides the basis for much of what is done at the Monroe  Institute. The CHECs are heavily curtained providing darkness and a modicum of solitude for meditations.

In the meditation we were led to a “focus level”, an altered state of consciousness, wherein it is common to encounter the spirits of the recently departed. I found myself looking down from above at a very large hall with a rounded cylindrical roof. Below me were several hundred white marble looking biers and on those biers were bodies covered in white covers or drapes. The bodies were clothed in white with a wide (approx 4″) gold stripe running from the left shoulder to the right hip. I sensed someone with me. It seemed to be a woman…it seemed to be my roommate. I ascertained that she had the situation covered and I left for a very odd scene at a doughnut shop. This part of my vision was slightly humorous as the recently dead man to whom I spoke did not seem to realize he was dead and was still working at the doughnut shop. He was excited to offer me any kind of doughnut I could imagine, any flavor I could come up with. It was very magical to him.

When the meditation audio was finished I emerged from my CHEC and spoke to my roommate. Turns out she volunteered her experience in the barrelled ceilinged hall and it was identical to mine down to the gold stripe (!) but in her vision after I left the deceased bodies sat up.

Two other wonderful experiences during the week were two group discussions, one with remote viewer Joe McMoneagle, who spoke of photos of the far side of the moon which appear to reveal the ruins of structures that were built by someone and are available from Jet Propulsion Labs (JPL) in California if you know what to ask for. I was lucky to also be at Joe’s table during lunch. Every time I meet him he has many fascinating experiences and ideas to discuss. The other talk was with

Fahrusha and Robert Van de Castle

Fahrusha and Robert Van de Castle

Robert Van de Castle, a dream expert who was a pioneer in dream research dating back to the famous Maimonides Dream Lab. He regaled us with some of his anomalous dream experiences. About a year ago, Dr. Van de Castle was kind enough to answer an emailed question I sent him and it was a real thrill to get to meet him.

All in all it was a wonder-filled week with new friends and old at TMI!

I feel so happy and privileged to know people who write books. In the past few years I’ve lost two author friends, Captain Arthur Haggerty and Serena Wilson. My world lost some of its luster when they passed on. Both of them changed my life for the better. Cap was really my best friend for many years. He wrote primarily about dog training and he helped me to get my late dog, Junior Pie, into show business. One of his books, Dog Tricks, was co-written by Carol Lea Benjamin, who has written a series of dog inspired mysteries that I love to read, and who I am privileged to have met several times in conjunction with Captain Haggerty! Serena Wilson was my first official teacher of Middle Eastern Dance and a dear friend as well. She wrote The Serena Technique of Bellydancing with her husband Alan Wilson, also a friend.

When I first met Lauren Raine I felt I must have known her in a previous life. So familiar her story and so compatible her personality, she is surely a spiritual sister. She has published a work of great brilliance, Masks of the Goddess. This limited edition art book comprises and chronicles her work of many years. She is featured in several other of my blog pieces on this site.

Frank DeMarco is primarily a writer on metaphysical subjects and a founder of Hampton Roads Books and most recently Hologram Books. His 2008 offering, Babe In The Woods, is both metaphysical and very practical. For anyone who has ever thought about taking a seminar at the Monroe Institute, DeMarco has provided a detailed guide couched in a delightful story that is a thinly veiled account of his own first experience at this awesome place. I personally can’t wait to get back there. Frank DeMarco is one of the wonderfully wise and witty characters one might meet if they venture to the Institute and its surrounding community.

I’m Allergic is Missy Harris‘s first childrens’ book and hopefully not the last. It is a charming book for both those kids with allergies and their young friends who don’t understand what the concept means. I believe that the book provides a great service in telling children who don’t suffer with allergies what happens in the experience of those that do.

All the other books mentioned here have been published in 2008. I feel compelled to mention another book, The Lure of The Edge by Brenda Denzler, published in 2001 but which I only found out about in November of 2008. Finding it was a very serendipidous synchonicity. I was browsing a library catalog for intelligently written books about UFOs when I saw Brenda’s very familiar name. Could it be the very same person with whom I’d been corresponding on an internet listseve about other subjects? Indeed it was.  It is written very thoughtfully on an extremely charged subject and it deals with, among other things,  the onus that falls on many professionals who entertain the reality of UFOs and the unwillingness of much of the scientific community to look further into the UFO mystery.
